People often ask me: "Henry, why base a technology education company on the principles of Kwanzaa?" It's a fair question. On the surface, a holiday celebrating African heritage and community values might seem disconnected from coding bootcamps and cryptocurrency wallets.
But that surface-level reading misses the point entirely. The seven principles of Kwanzaa — Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani — aren't just cultural traditions. Umoja (Unity)
Traditional meaning: To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.

Kuumba (Creativity)
Traditional meaning: To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.
Osageomics application: Innovation requires creativity, and creativity requires diverse perspectives. Our programs actively recruit from communities that are underrepresented in tech — not as charity, but because diverse teams build better products.
Kuumba also drives our approach to problem-solving. We encourage unconventional thinking, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the kind of creative risk-taking that produces breakthrough innovations.
Imani (Faith)
Traditional meaning: To believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.
Osageomics application: Faith is the foundation everything else is built on. Faith in yourself — that you can learn new skills at any age. Faith in your community — that together you can build something greater than any individual. Faith in the mission — that education and empowerment can transform lives and communities.
When Marcus walked into our program at 38 years old with no coding experience, it took faith to believe he could become a software engineer.
